What is Moose Mobile and how does it deal with Optus?

Moose Mobile

Australia has a number of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) that do not own the network as such but resell services from the main carriers directly to customers. While there are just four mobile phone network operators in Australia-Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Pivotel as well, in remote areas , there are stacks of MVNOs who sell services on top of the networks built by the other operators. Moose Mobile is one of those MVNOs. In month of May 2017 they signed a five-year deal to resell Optus’ 4G services on top of their business selling refurbished handsets.

Plans offered by Moose Mobile

Moose Mobile Plans

Moose Mobile is offering a bunch of different plans on the Optus 4G network, ranging from $15 per month for 1GB of data with unlimited talk and text, all the way to $49 per month for 25GB of data (at the time of writing). All their plans are month-to-month so there’s no need to commit for months or years.

They also offer refurbished phones at what look to be competitive prices. For example, an iPhone 6 is going for $369 and they offer a guaranteed 25% buyback if you upgrade the handset within 12 months with them.

Also you can keep your existing number if you want to transfer to Moose. During the sign up process, just tell your mobile number and the name of your current service provider. If you receive a monthly invoice from your service provider (post paid), you need the account number to mention on your past invoices. Pre-paid customers will need the DOB used when activating your pre-paid service. If you don’t have access to this information now, simply select a new number and tell Moose these details once you receive the sim card.

If the information you provide is correct, most transfers are complete within 1 – 48 hours. Incorrect account information may cause delays in transferring the service. Your existing SIM card will remain active and you will not lose any service until Moose have successfully transferred your number. Once your service has been transferred across to your new Moose SIM, make sure to reboot your device (with the Moose SIM card inserted) to refresh the network.

This plan is subject to Anniversary billing which begins on date of your connection and ends 30 days after. You will receive a Paper Bill to your home address, or you can opt to receive a bill via email. Note: A paper bill will incur an additional charge of $2.50 each month.

You can pay your bills with direct debit via credit card which is mandatory, you can also pay using Bpay, Australia Post or Direct Deposit. If you choose to do so, payment must be received prior to the due date otherwise your direct debit will be processed. The additional charges include: Australia Post $2.50 and Bpay: $1.00 or Direct Deposit $Free..

Also if you would like to cancel your service, please call Moose Mobile on (07) 31939400 and it will finalise your account. As all of the plans are Month by Month, no cancellation fees will apply. If you are porting your service over to a new provider, they will contact Moose to initiate the process.

Moose Mobile offers a SIM card to cater for all handset models. If your device uses a standard SIM or micro SIM, you’ll receive a double punch SIM which will suit most phones (such as the iPhone 4S and previous models, Samsung Galaxy SII, S3, S4 and S5). Moose also provide a nano SIM to suit newer devices like the iPhone 5, the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus, the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z3.

They don’t have any Android handsets listed at this time in their online site but it is assumed that they will surely do so. Moose Mobile’s focus will be on the youth segment with a combination of refurbished handsets and SIM offers. But at those prices, they look like a good deal for anyone who lives and works within Optus’ coverage area.
