How to use Valve’s new steam Chat App on your iOS and Android mobile?
Lately two months back Valve released a new standalone mobile app incorporating many of the chat features of its desktop client, The new mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android, includes rich chat features, group chats, customizable notifications, and more. This is Valve’s second major iOS app launch as the long-delayed Steam Link app, which lets users beam Steam games from their desktop PC to an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, was also approved by Apple in May 2019.
Valve’s Steam Chat App Features
The app includes many key features of the Steam Client desktop chat, including:
- There is a friends list to see who’s in game or online at a glance.
- With Rich Chat your chats get even better with higher fidelity links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy, Steam emoticons, and more.
- You can invite Links and add new friends on Steam with a link. Generate an invite link you can text or email.
- Also have customizable notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel.
- With Group Chats you can get everyone on the same page. Groups make it easier to do things like stay in touch with your communities and organize game night with your best friends.
To use Valve’s new steam Chat App on your iOS and Android mobile first you need to get the app on your mobile device.

After downloading and installing the app, you’ll need to sign in with your Steam account (or create a new one) and verify the device via a confirmation code sent to your email. Once you’re signed in, you’ll be able to message your Steam friends while not at your PC, and without needing the core Steam app installed.

Some of Steam’s desktop features for chatting aren’t present on Steam Chat at launch, like voice chat, but Valve confirmed in its blog post these will be added soon. With Steam Chat moving to its own dedicated app, the original Steam Mobile app will see significant upgrades focused on account security. Steam plans include better Steam Guard options to help securely log into your Steam account, such as QR codes and one-touch login, and improved app navigation.
The Steam Link App
The Steam Link app on Android extends Steam Link functionality to many mobile, tablets, and TVs. Simply download the free app from Google play for Android. The App uses the same streaming technology as Valve’s Steam Link, allowing you to play your favorite games and even spectate VR games right from your TV.
You need a computer running Steam, Windows 7 or newer, Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or newer, SteamOS, or Linux Ubuntu 12.04 or newer. Wireless router 5GHz with supported Input/Controllers or the Steam Controller, Microsoft Xbox One S Controller (wireless)
To get started turn on your home PC, launch Steam, and log in. Ensure your phone is connected to the same network as your host PC. Download the app from the Play Store and follow the on screen instructions. If you have questions about the app or need help using it, just click the appropriate tab.
In iPhone or iOS movbile just pair an MFI or Steam controller to your device, connect to a computer running Steam on the same local network, and start playing your existing Steam games. You need here also computer running Steam – Windows, Mac, or Linu and iOS device must be on the same local network as the computer running Steam
For best performance you connect your computer using Ethernet to your 5Ghz WiFi router and connect your iOS device to the 5GHz band of your WiFi network. Also keep your iOS device within a reasonable range of your router.
