How to get refund from Google play on purchasing an app by mistake?

Google Play

Wanna refund on Google apps purchased by mistake. You must have got confused with the huge selection of apps available at the app store for your smartphone. It is obvious as there are more than 1.4 million apps on Google play. That shows Android users have a wide variety to choose from.

As most of these apps are free but some good ones with great features are paid apps and you must have been tempted to buy one of these paid apps. But you must have bought the wrong app or downloaded it by mistake and now you want your money back. Right? Now worries. Here is how to get the refund from Google play on purchasing an app by mistake.

Before we look as how to get the money back for the faulty purchase of the app, you must understand what the Google play’s refund policy has to say.

  • Google allows users to get a full refund if it receives a complaint within two hours of an app or game being downloaded.
  • After the two-hour limit, you will have to contact the developer of the app directly to find out if you’re eligible for a refund.
  • If you’re struggling to sort the refund out with the developer, you can also contact Google’s support team who might be able to help move it forward.
  • You can only request a refund once for each app. If you decide to download it again, you won’t be able to claim another refund.

So now you know the time frame to ask for refund from Google and that is within TWO hours of an app purchase. After that you have to contact the developer for refund. But how to get a refund?

Repeating again as this is important:  You can request a refund within the two-hour limit from your account in the Google Play Store using your smartphone or tablet only.

You WILL NOT BE able to process a refund using your PC.

On your mobile device, go to the Google Play Store and tap the menu icon, followed by My account.

Google Play Account

Scroll down the page until you find the section marked Order history. Find the app you wish to receive a refund for and tap Refund.

A pop up box will appear, asking you if you’re sure you want to go ahead with the refund? Tap YES to agree.

But suppose you have lapsed your two year time frame to have your refund. Then in that case as said above you have to contact the app’s developer to find out whether you’re eligible for a request in writing.

  • To do this, you need to go to the app’s download page and click READ MORE under the main app details.
  • Scroll to the bottom and look for Developer email. Take it down and email your refund request.

Now you have contacted the app developer but he refused to refund your Google Play app download, so what will you do in such a situation.

Developers generally have the ultimate say over refunds, but suppose they refused to refund your money back or did not responded then you should contact the Google Play Support team. As an Aussie you can call 1800-093-181 any time as it is 24 hours service seve days a week.

Remember that once you have requested your refund for the app the app will be removed from your device and you cannot keep the app any longer.

Also though there is no limit on the number of apps you can request a refund for, but avoid unnecessary download of app if you don’t need it. Google keeps an eye refunds and says it “may decline requests for refunds that appear to be abusing our processes”.
